Background & Experience

Prior to his partnership at Hager & Schwartz, P.A., Attorney Hager served as an Assistant State Attorney at the Broward County State Attorney’s Office, where he was able to gain an extensive amount of experience regarding the complex criminal justice system. During this time, he handled cases ranging from misdemeanors to felonies, many of which he tried to verdict.

Upon leaving the Broward County State Attorney’s Office, Attorney Hager accepted a career at the largest defense firm in Florida, where he litigated on behalf of the state’s largest and most well-known insurance companies. In addition, he was selected to serve as a committee member for the Traffic Rules Committee in the State of Florida by the President of the Florida Bar. Hager served in this position for two full terms.

Hager served in this position for two full terms. From 2009 to 2012, he was honored in the South Florida Legal Guide as one of their "Top Up & Comers," an achievement awarded to attorneys under the age of 40. Years after, he was awarded “Top Lawyer” by the same publication. Since then, he has been listed in Super Lawyers several years running. He is admitted to practice in all Florida State Courts and the U.S. Southern District Court.

In 2017, John Hager, Esq. was chosen to serve as a member of the Florida Bar’s grievance committee. The position, which has a three-year position duration, is only granted to highly experienced and reputable attorneys. There are currently 20 judicial circuits in the State, each one having at least one grievance committee. As a grievance committee member, Attorney Hager will work alongside other lawyers and non-attorney experts to review complaints of lawyer professional misconduct as defined by the Supreme Court of Florida. The committee decides if a complaint has enough evidential backing to warrant further review by the Florida Bar, and what discipline could be used, if ultimately necessary.
